Alberta is noted within Canada for its powerful natural-resource driven economy, as well as natural beauty and a high standard of living. However, there are many challenges facing those living in Alberta today. This includes volatility in its resource-based economy, cost of living and environmental challenges. There are, of course, many nonprofits in the province dedicated to all kinds of charitable missions.

These nonprofits can only do their essential work through the generous funding provided by grants. These grants can help cover a variety of programs and initiatives. There are many different organizations that provide these kinds of grants. This includes the Government of Alberta itself. There are also many community and private foundations involved in grant-giving, such as the Calgary Foundation, and the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation.  

When drafting a grant proposal at the provincial level, it is essential to collect accurate, relevant and local data. You need to demonstrate that you understand the challenges faced by local communities, and that you have enough data to come up with plans to address those challenges. Good places to start looking for these statistics could include local health and education departments, as well as regional economic and environmental studies.
