Public art is a way to bring a sense of pride and belonging to a community. In a time when many feel more divided, this is perhaps at its most important. It can also serve to beautify a community, and help revitalize interest in the area from businesses and tourists, having an economic edge as well. But organizing public art isn’t free. That’s where there are many nonprofits operational in this space.

Of course, these nonprofits can only do what they do through the generous funding provided by nonprofit grants. These grants can fund all kinds of projects - from paying artists for public art projects, paying to preserve or maintain existing public art, to hosting workshops on how to create art for public spaces.

There are many organizations that write grants in the public art space. These traditionally included federal organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts. There are also many local and state art councils that offer grants for public art, as well as private and community foundations.

When drafting public art grant proposals, it's essential to use data to make up your claims that your public art ideas will have a positive impact on your community of choice.
