Black and African American Communities across America face long standing disparities in income, health, housing, education and access to capital. There are many nonprofits that have made it their mission to help these communities. But it is only through the generous support of black community grants that many of these nonprofits are able to pursue their goals.

These black community grants can be put towards all kinds of initiatives and programs. These could include expanding health access, education, workforce development, food access, affordable housing or cultural institutions. They can also be used to support civic engagement through programs such as voter participation. 

There are many different organizations that are involved in these spaces. These include private foundations such as the Surdna Foundation or community foundations such as the The Black Future Co-op Fund. 

When drafting black community grants, it is essential that you demonstrate that you truly understand the community and the problems facing it. Depending on the purpose of your nonprofit you may need to pull up data on disparities in income, education or health. Good places to get started could include databases such as the Kaiser Family Foundation.
