Cultural awareness programs are designed to foster understanding and social cohesion in societies that are becoming increasingly diverse - including the United States. Cultural awareness is thus only an increasingly important practice, not only for the sake of cultural preservation, but to help society better weather significant cultural changes.

Nonprofits involved in cultural awareness are only able to do their good work thanks to the generous donations provided by grants. These cultural awareness grants can be put towards all kinds of purposes and projects. These could include educational programs in cultural awareness, the hosting of local festivals or exhibitions, or funding outreach programs in cultural competency.

There are many different organizations that would provide these kinds of grants. These traditionally included federal agencies, such as the National Endowment for the Humanities. There are also many private and community foundations in this space, such as the W.K. Kellogg Foundation or the Open Society Foundations. 

When drafting a cultural awareness grant proposal it is essential to use data to support your claims. In order to demonstrate that a community could benefit from cultural awareness, you need to have demographic data prepared that proves ethnic diversity. Information on the social and economic benefits of cultural awareness programs is also highly useful. For demographic data, the U.S. Census Bureau or the Pew Research Center are good places to get started.
