Access to healthcare is essential to maintain quality of life - and in many cases, to maintain life itself. Despite this essential quality, access to healthcare is neither universal nor equitable. There are many nonprofit organizations that try to address this inequality - but they can only do this through the support provided by health equity grants.

These grants can be put towards a wide range of purposes in order to address healthcare disparities. This could include the creation of more community health programs, outreach efforts to underserved populations, and training for healthcare providers to avoid cultural bias.

Health equity grants are provided by a wide range of entities. These could include federal agencies such as the CDC and HRSA, or state and local health departments. There are also many private foundations that provide these kinds of grants, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

When preparing health equity grants, it's important to collect data that can illustrate the gap in health services that your nonprofit wants to address. You’ll want this data to be highly specific to the underserved community your nonprofit seeks to help. This could include statistics on  healthcare access disparities and chronic disease prevalence. The CDC, state health departments, and local community health assessments are all great places to get started.
