An estimated 15% of American adults have some sort of difficulty hearing, while 8% have some sort of difficulty with vision. For many, these deficiencies are easily compensated for through various means. But for some, these conditions are too severe to fully counteract. There are also many Americans who have hearing and vision issues that could be resolved, but who don’t have the facilities or funds for these options. This is where nonprofits step in, making sure as many people have as many options as possible to make their lives more comfortable, and the world more accessible.

These nonprofits can only do this work through the generous funding provided by hearing and vision grants. These grants can be used for a wide range of purposes and programs. This includes developments in assistive technology, improved public accessibility and tailored training programs for the workforce. 

There are a variety of organizations that provide hearing and vision grants. Traditionally, this included federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. There are also many community and private foundations that provide grants in this space, such as the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
