It is a rare place in this world where you can't find inequalities. Human history is complex and nuanced, and its passage has left certain groups marginalized compared to others. There are many nonprofits who seek to address these inequalities. But these nonprofits can only continue their quest for greater equality and justice through the funding provided by social justice grants.

These grants can be put toward a large range of projects and initiatives. The general purpose of these programs is to elevate those in a disadvantageous position within society. These could include advocacy campaigns, legal assistance, educational workshops, and policy reform initiatives.

One of the biggest funders of social justice grants are private foundations. There are many such organizations who give significant grants in this area, including the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation. 

When preparing a social justice grant proposal, you want to tell an impactful story of injustice, and how your nonprofit will seek to redress it. But you need to back up this story with clear data, to show that there is a tangible effect of this injustice. The data you’ll look for could include statistics on income inequality, housing inequality or other indicators of disparities between social groups.
